“Despite being an ardent anti-tax Republican, I’m all for the beverage tax, just like the smoking tax.
A. Most importantly, I don’t buy either. PS it’s a sugar tax, not a beverage tax.
B. It’ll get people to stop consuming what’s bad for them.
C. It minimizes raises on other taxes that DO affect me.”

Well, DIBS, at least you’re honest! I wish that more anti-tax Republicans would acknowledge that they are just against the taxes that affect THEM.
“I am not against the idea of consumption taxes. In fact, I think that we under-tax consumption (in fact, we subisidize it too much), and we over-tax production (income).”
Wouldn’t it be much easier to balance their budget if they just cut spending across the board and got rid off all the asinine entitlement programs this state has?

Having said that, I am against the proposed tax increases because it is yet another example of Albany putting off the reforms that are need with regard to spending, particularly in the area of the civil-service.
