pete’s right on the way a coop is taxed, and the same rules concerning cap on tax increases. kens, good luck getting it changed. Folks been trying to do that for years. City would have to replace lost revenue from somewhere else anyway.
dibs, I’ve been spoiled in never having to deal with the 4,5 or 6 in my NYC life. Just once in while to see Drs on first ave. I’m lucky to have b or q to get everywhere. Heck even the G transfers well at metropolitan for the L.
Sorry to hear that DeLepp. For what it’s worth, they are highly qualified lawyers and do that day in and day out. I am sure if they could have won the judgment they would. They were just hired by my sister’s co-op because of the same issue. Let’s see if they can win that one.
And Pete, they don’t get paid unless they do..more of a motivation that way.
*rob*
I concur with M4L,
the root of your predicament seems to be the combination
of working in SOHO surrounded by an industry which thrives on appearances and success, the soul crushing subway commute and the conspicuous consumption and pressures of upward mobility that permeate neighborhoods filled with professionals and their families.
some suggestions,
-hanging out in some less pressurized nighborhoods on occasion. Queens has many.
-pursuing something you are passionate about, whether it’s
croquet, cricket or crochet. Did you know that there are people that meet at Floyd Bennet Field on a routine basis to race model airplanes? For real, I happened to be wandering around aimlessly one day and happened upon a miniature airfield in the middle of that park. there were bleachers, an audience and a bunch of dudes gasing up their model airplanes and jets for action. It was a real happening. these people had vans tricked out with all sorts of airplane gear and radio control equipment. Look into a stick painting society, you’d be surprised.
-channel your ennui into a blog. or a youtube series.
-look into cults, there are many out there and they tend to have good catering.
For what I remember, a coop building is taxed at rate equivalent to a similar rental building(size, location, etc). So it is a multi-family tax rate.
I don’t know if there is cap on yearly % increase or reassessments annually.
The percent # of shares of bldg you own determines what part is attributed to you. You could make sure that your managing agent is calculation that correctly.
DeLepp, you think the A train is bad, ride the 4/5/6 sometime when it’s crowded. At least the people on the A train largely keep to themselves, many actually reading the bible. The 4/5/6 people are certifiable. I don’t ride it anymore, thank god.
When there’s a nutcase on the A, most get a kick out of him/her.

…just don’t drink the kool-aid. 😉

Kens, easier to buy a house than to lower tax on coop, condo
What time do you ride the A?? I get on around 7:00-7:10 and most everyone is still sleepy. Also it’s not all that crowded.
There are a lot of big butts though.
