  1. I think it is a combination, Pete. This issue is compounded by the fact that I have a massive tree in my backyard which is a constant source of debris. It is a Norway maple and it produces leaves, “flowers”, seeds, tons of garbage and when it rains violently all of this stuff falls to the patio and then is swept toward the drain.

This tree by the way, is probably 50 feet tall and spreads over 7 properties, a great bonding opportunity 🙁 with my neighbors. Also a big expense.

  2. donatella, does there seem to be drainage right through the payio stone?? If so, you might want to add a concrete step (yes, build it up higher to act as a dam). Though a bit inconvenient it may be the cheapest way around this

  3. My contractor, the guy who did most of the work on my building, put in a paver brick patio in the back yard. The patio is slightly pitched toward the only drain in the backyard, which is near the door to the kitchen. The drain AND the door to the kitchen are a foot and a half LOWER than the pation (three steps lower).

This design has been a problem for obvious reasons. For most rain, no problem, but when you get those deluges (it only takes ONE, like the one that shut down the subway a couple of summers ago) but the drain can’t handle the flow of water. It pools and twice in the past few years actually came into the kitchen. I have to get this fixed this summer.

  4. we tried installing antenna on roof last night (am tired of paying for cable tv since rarely turn it on).
Bought an antenna and tested in the house – got maybe 4 channels. Though when put on 4 roof (4 floor house) would get more.
Didn’t get any. Even with the ‘booster’ thing we added.
Can Donatella come over and check all the connections and see what is wrong?
