L, things sure have changed since I had a wee one. I guess it goes hand in hand with the trend to structure everything kids do. At five, some parents stayed (especially if from another nabe), some didn’t. It all worked out and no one talked about ‘drop-off’ parties. Weird.
kens — you’ll be on 278/BQE from Staten Island through to Queens, then on LIE into Van Dam. You need to avoid parkways, but there is no reason you would take one. After that, it is a local LIC issue, but I can’t imagine most roads in LIC getting to RI from LIE near midtown tunnel aren’t already truck routes. It’s a pretty industrial area. Also, if you have to park on street overnight, call local precinct for advice as to where overnight truck street parking is ok — usually not in residential areas. Budget truck is a ticket magnet.
Thanks guys, I’ll just check with Budget when we pick up the truck from the lot in NC.
lol, Rob, nope, not smuggling goats. Cousin got residency at Sloan Kettering so he’s moving here for a year (and I was asked to help him drive the truck down here). He is pride and joy in our family, unlike me :o).
Etson, no doubt. Let me know if you need further help and we’ll figure something out when you visit in July.
Kens, just stick to interstates. I would just take 95 all the way, GWB, then into Manhattan local streets and over the 59th Street, or triboro into Queens. Just stay off anything called a Parkway. Also, anything with a sign ‘no commercial traffic’ means no trucks.
Kens, you’ll likely need someone with you when you try to park (ie if roosevelt island destination is that bad parking space-wise as rest of NYC). you’ll need that person to tell you how much space there is, etc. Your boy is done with Med sch already?
Kens, I seiously doubt the NC office is going to know where the “no commercial vehicles” streets are in NYC.
A la….
