  1. Benson, I could probably counter your union abuse stories with employer abuse stories all day. They are all anecdotal, and while they fire up the outrage on one side or the other, the fact remains that property taxes in NJ are not super high because of the teacher’s union or any other union. It’s so much more complicated than that.

I never said the teacher’s union wasn’t a rip off, or that their opt out program was fair, it’s not. However, the basic protection for many kinds of workers is still provided by unions, and until the day that we don’t need to have such protection, which is probably never, they will still have a place in our workforce.

Union reform is a necessary thing that level headed union people know will be mandated. What they should be doing is making changes themselves, protecting the workers they are supposed to be protecting, and letting go of the massive amounts of pork they’ve amassed over the years. But unions are certainly not the only ones who protect their salaries. EVERYONE does.

  2. ET, that’s because we’re all members of the PLUUSA (Pathetic Losers Union of Usual Suspects, Amalgamated).

“cobble, you really have to learn to stop getting worked up so easily. it makes you look like a cuckoo bird!”

    As opposed to, dare I say it, a . . . a . . . a. . . PEACOCK! (Sorry, rob, too tempting.)
