  1. I love house museums. People should patronize them more, or there won’t be any, they run on shoestring budgets, and are the first things to get cut.

The Alice Austen house on Staten Island is also very interesting. She was a 19th century photographer. The house overlooks the bay, and the view is amazing. A friend got married on the grounds many years ago.

  2. “Now take back every mean thing you’ve ever said about me.”

Be careful what you ask for, ET, or you might Shirley get it. You’d be sooooo bored if I was nice to you in public. 😉

  3. Dona, it’s a ‘small’ house museum compared to the monstrosities in Newport.

Merchant’s house and Roosevelt’s Birthplace are great house museums and in Manhattan. Morris Jumel is another nice small one with Revolutionary war history.
If you go to Morris Jumel check out Sylvan Terrace across the street. It’s really charming.
