are glasses really expensive these days? ugh. i was thinking about buying a pair just to have around in case i run out of contacts and stuff or to watch tv in couch. can you just buy a cheapie pair at thrift store and bring them to the eye glass place and have them put the script in? i think it winds up costing me like 1.50 a day just for the luxury of seeing. im blind as seahorse without them tho. never thought about lasik, sounds scary
“Cobble, seems similar to me, except the part about hitting 40…I have at least 15 years before that happens. ;-)”
LOL!
My recommendation would be not to use the ‘readers’ and to go to a good eye doc. I recommend Dr. Deutsch on Remsen.
He can give you a prescription, and per your insurance you can figure out where might accept it and get glasses made up. [Warning: If you’ve never bought glasses, be prepared for sticker shock!]
I would avoid Friedman on Montague. Friedman’s great, but the eye glass store part/staff is just horrible.
Biff, that is EXACTLY what happened to me right before I got glasses. My right eye had apparently been compensating for my left eye for years and finally couldn’t do it anymore. I have no prescription in my right lens, and my left lens prescription is rather strong. I’m overdue for an ophthalmologist’s appointment, though, and I have a feeling I will finally need a prescription in my right lens, too. My distance vision used to be better, but, sadly, I have trouble reading the on screen guide sometimes! I hate contacts, which is why I chose to get glasses. My eye doctor had suggested a monacle, but I didn’t really want to look like Colonel Klink.
my eye doctor tricked me into buying two seperate prescriptions of contacts. :-/ i went for a few months with one eye blurrier than the other. lo and behold i decide one day to see what would happen if i used the same prescription for both eyes and guess what? i can now see perfectly. i actually stopped in this week and ordered a box of one of the prescriptions, and they were fine with it. i thought they’d force me to buy both prescriptions. if anyone has a -6.00 contact lenses i have like 40 of them for the taking (they are the daily disposables) you just throw them out before you go to sleep.
that place i go to is more concerned about hosting designer sunglasses fashion shows than getting your prescription right apparently 😕
Oh wait, I was going to go to Grand Opticians at 151 Montague, NOT Heights Vision Center that you said not to go to Cobble.
Biff, I think Friedman himself is good, it’s his glasses store that I didn’t enjoy doing business with.

Shoot, really? That’s exactly where I was going to go for an exam. Argh!
And I second Rob in CGar getting a monacle!!
Thanks Dona. I don’t want to mess around with my vision and cheap out with reader glasses so will definitely make sure I get what’s best.
