  1. Cobble, no one is saying only CEO’s, bankers, lawyers, work super long hours but to say CEO is an easy cushy hours gig is completely ridiculous. CEO is a super hard gig. Again, overpaid is a different story.

  2. I don’t know
I think we have gotten way of of whack for what we think is approriate pay for CEO’s of companies
I mean seriously $22 milloin a year salary for Citibank or Yahoo or Tmobile CEO?
    I mean REALLLLYYYYY?
and the shareholders are all part of the same boys club to begin with so they aint gonna say much!

  3. “G10, the hours are long (12hr+ day are super common; heavy travel). the pressure is intense. the decisions are complicated. to find a comparable job if terminated/resigned is super hard.”

I used to do all that at my old job and didn’t get compensated comparable to a CEO.

  4. “Do you have any idea the hours that most investment bankers put in??? And most CEOs and divisional presidents, etc work long, long weeks.”

I know plenty of people who make far far less than $1 mil at staff jobs, and work pretty much all the time — through holidays, weekends, late nights. Even if you aren’t at ‘the office’, you are ‘on duty’. At best, a lot of these people make $150-200,000. I know a woman that had to cancel Christmas with her family because the company she worked for wanted her to hurry up and push through a distribution of new stationery. She said her son was pretty upset, but she told him she’d try to make it up to him. [How do you do that?]

  6. In a publicly-held company, the shareholders have means to express their views concerning senior management’s pay (see: the proxy statement). If the shareholders are OK with it, why is it anyone else’s business?

Also, to go back to CMU’s argument above: the purchase of a company’s products are discretionary. If you lose sleep about some CEO’s pay, don’t purchase that company’s products.

CEO’s of big firm work super hard. to say otherwise is complete bs. to say they’re overpaid is another story.

    -can you quantify that please?

  8. “CGar, the One BK units facing water is killer vs. facing bqe is “why bother””

m4l, as I’ll explain later (gotta finish a project), I actually love the units overlooking the BQE. Forget the BQE, you get incredible views of Brooklyn, stretching from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Verrazano. And Joralemon Street from above looks like a street in San Francisco.
