  1. “I had better get back to vetting this spreadsheet of folks that will take an *alternate* furlough day…. Friday isn’t convenient for everyone.”

    I know how they feel. It’s not really convenient for me being unemployed M-F. [J/K!]

  2. Give Boston D credit – they crowded James. Jamison and Williams were a disappointment.

    “There’s a difference between recognizing the situation and dealing with it appropriately vs. rolling over and polishing your Gat.”

    How do you deal with “it” appropriately if you don’t even recognize “it”? “it” is called a depression and you better recognize. 1930’s redux. Writing all over the wall. Worldwide. War. Not looking forward to it but that’s what it is. Pay off debt and stay in US dollars. And yeah, lock and load.

    “If you aint got guns then you betta cop some…’cause this New World Order’s around the block dun” – Jadakiss ’98

    “tybur6, none of these jackasses with their cut and paste doom and gloom actually know the definition of recession or depression.”

    delta GDP = -10%. Deficit spending = -12% of GDP. Washington/FED is trying to hide it from you. Like the recession (remember when I called it in 2007 to the dismay of most), the depression will be retroactively called as starting in 2009. Like in 1930, right after the crash of 1929. Despite all FAILED “reassurances” that the worst was behind. Deja vu.

  3. Rob;

    There is a bingo parlor on 5th Ave and 7th or 8th Street. You know where that Jennifer Convertible store is? It’s in the basement of that space. The entryway is near the Jennifer Convertible place – look for the sign.

    I don’t know about cheap hotels in Park Slope, but I would recommend two clean, non-crackhead places in other parts of Brooklyn. Both are Best Westerns. One is located in Sheepshead Bay and is only a couple of years old. The other is in Bay Ridge at 4th Ave and 86th Street. The latter is closer to Park Slope, but is probably more expensive. Both are in nice areas that have alot of shopping and are accessible to the subways. You can find them on Best Western’s web-site.

  4. Thanks m4l – i figured. In the meantime, I had better get back to vetting this spreadsheet of folks that will take an *alternate* furlough day…. Friday isn’t convenient for everyone.

  5. Rob, not sure about the cheap eateries and hotels in Park Slope, but sidestep.com usually has some pretty good deals on accomodations. I would surf for places in your area on that site. Also, I’m sure some PLUSAs (including me) would join you and your grandma if you went out somewhere, which may help you feel more comfortable. Although she may fear for your safety and well-being even more if she meets any of us!

  6. hmmm im seeking weird advice.. so my grandmother definitely wants to come up to nyc to visit me cuz it’s pretty obvious i dont wanna go down to south carolina. someone is going to drive her up here and they are going to stay in a motel over night. i know there’s a bunch of new motels and stuff around the gowanus area, but im wondering if there are any CHEAP (but not crackhead central) motels in the park slope area? perhaps one with parking? i guess we’d also be going to a restaurant.. what would be a nice inexpensive restaurant on 5th avenue to take them to? other than that i havent the slightest idea what to do with them… i have not spent more than an hour in her company in probably 15-20 years so this is going to be difficult for me. is there a bingo parlor in park slope she can spend a few hours in? im pretty sure i remember seeing a bingo parlor in lower park slope once but im not sure if it was just a sign that said bingo parlor or not.. also how exactly would she get up here by car from south carolina? i mean like how long do you think that trip would take? is it just like up a bunch of highways or something? if their motel doesnt have parking, is it going to be hard for them to find parking?

    i feel like such an a*hole cuz this whole thing is just annoying me. i feel very infringed upon, and that’s got to be the douchiest thing someone can feel about their family :-/ i just get very nervous and agitated around family. im thinking it might be simpler to take a train down to south carolina, have some coffee and a snack, then take the next train back up to nyc? she’s such a moron for even moving down there. she should have just stayed in her swank 2 bedroom + garage in the damn projects in jersey.
