  1. Good morning everyone. Had a great weekend in Vermont. Hung out at my sister’s place, way off the grid, solar power, pigs, chickens, huge vegetable garden, good stuff. More on that later. In the meantime, I checked back at Friday’s OT and saw this little gem from cmu:

“They will simply dessicate.”…and the sequestered CO2 will simply magically vanish. Boy, do you need remedial science lessons.”

My first reaction was that I should be nice to cmu and just direct him to http://www.dictionary.com where he can look up the word “desiccate”, then go look up “sequester”. As a bonus exercise he could maybe do some reading on the rate of decay for wood in an extremely dry environment and then just quietly reflect on his complete reading comprehension failure. And I suppose that’s what I would have done if his mental diarrhea had stopped at the first sentence where he quoted me and then proceeded to make a leap in logic that reflects either a belief in alchemy or a total failure to understand what I said.

But no, he took it a step further by offering the following:

“Boy, do you need remedial science lessons.”

This reminds me of the kinds of insults that 8 year olds yell out the windows of school buses, and by “kids” I mean the ones that wear helmets and by “school buses” I mean the little short ones. It also reminds me of how cmu regaled us all last week with a sentence that included the words “Sarah Palin” and “creationist” but was otherwise devoid of anything resembling logic or argument, as if that sort of statement is sufficient to refute anything at all. “I think lower taxes would stimulate the economy.” “You would say that, you’re just like Sarah Palin and the creationists.” “Sigh….[scans room for grownups to talk to].”

I’ll offer the following tip as a general public service so it doesn’t look like I’m singling out cmu: If you offer someting along the lines of logic or argument, or even just information, people will start taking you seriously. Just for example, if someone is throwing out a hypothetical for the purpose of irritating liberals and generally being argumentative, and you choose not to just ignore him (a perfectly valid strategy by the way), you might want to bring something more to the table than 8th grade insults — like, just for example, an argument as to why you belive the science to be unsound. I’m actually quite receptive to those.

  2. I didn’t vote on the poll but hoped What would figure out that many people find him unpleasant at times & maybe he’d modify some of his tasteless posts. His rants don’t bother me since I see them as pathological & not worth expending energy on & there is an interesting aspect to some of his more cogent thoughts – w/o the off-the-wall carry-on his additions would be a positive contribution. It’s intriguing to see how many votes there were given that many regular PLUSAs didn’t partake.
