I cannot support a law which, however well intentioned it is, does not follow simple principles of logic.
-It creates massive debt and puts the rest of our society at risk.
-It does not place the onus of healthcare on the individual but on the government.
-It does not address major cost drivers in healthcare.
-It follows models which have failed in the past.
Kensingtonian — It’s not the place of the United States President to make such judgements/comments about the purely domestic policies of a foreign nation. Trust me, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. We’re a country that seems to like getting involved in other folks’ bidnezz — I’m just saying Obama made the right choice here and didn’t say anything publicly. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people in the administration having this conversation with folks in the Greek gov’t and the EU.

Legion, I just don’t understand how you, as a doctor, can continue to bash the idea of health care to millions who can’t afford it, or don’t have access to it now. Is the bill perfect? Of course not, but if it even cracks the ice of rising health care costs in this country, it’s better than the status quo. Do Pelosi and Reid have better care than I do, you bet. So what? If the bill enables me, and millions like me to be able to GET some kind of health care, then that’s a improvement. Why is that so hard to fathom?

I’ve enjoyed reading the debate on carbon sink-forestation spurred by Lechacal.
It challenges a great deal of entrenched thought.
How about this idea:
Have the world pay us to “carbonate” one of the great lakes. They can pay us in carbon credits while we come up with alternative energy sources. 😉
