“Surprised that there has been so little focus on who the investors in the deal were. Doesn’t say much for their diligence to be the buyer of something that was designed to be toxic.”
They were incredibly sophisticated organizations and seasoned investors in this market.
Designed to be toxic???? You make it sound like someone’s drink was poisoned. This was a BET on the direction of housing prices and mortgage defaults. As you may recall, back when this trade was done the vast majority of the country was still chanting “the housing market never goes down….the housing market never goes down…” The guys on the other side of the trade agreed with this view. Paulson didn’t. So Paulson won. If the wind had blown differently, if certain chains of events hadn’t occurred, we could be in the middle of the bubble STILL, and the name Paulson would mean nothing to any of you because he would just be another nobody investor who lost a bunch of money when he wrongly bet against a market.
These things were not designed to be toxic. It’s a way for people to take opposite bets on a market. Plain and simple. The bets could have gone either way. If Paulson had lost the circumstances surrounding how this was set up would be absolutely no different – but would you be saying this is a product that was designed to be toxic??
It has happened to me since I was about 15. I am now 22. I have never tested any conditions or positions other than lying prostrate, silent, and in the dark. It is always just one sneeze. One sneeze that is induced when I fantasize about myself in sexual situations. No sex is even involved in them (at the time of sneeze). I did my own scant research on the topic and found that it is more common than first imagined, but still relatively unknown. Anyone have some information on this subject?
Depends on the cause, m4l, which no-one knows yet.
BP more likely. Not because they necessarily did anything wrong, but they were the operator of the well, and other things being equal (or unknown) that’s where the buck usually stops.
etson, what do you think this will do to price of crude, short-term and longer?
Maybe I’ll fill my gas tank this weekend 🙂

“Someone should be suing the buyers’ lawyers for this if it was so wrong!!!!!”
First thing we do, let’s sue all the lawyers.
(‘cept I did that during the LAST financial crisis. Or the one before that.)
“Lawyers suck.”- as long as they do it well, it is noble task.
Ugh, don’t forget the ratings agencies. AAA, baby.
“Lawyers suck.”
Never agreed with you more, jessi. In every sense of the word.
(Except, of course, for a few lawyers, who shall remain nameless, who I know personally and think are great.)
omg im cracking up at this…
My sexual fantasies make me sneeze.
