Teachers should definitely be able to hit kids. Especially in NYC public schools where the student to teacher ratio is so high. How else are they going to keep the kids in line?
Drill sargeants can’t even hit people in boot camp any more, which is such a fucking joke. I went through boot camp not long after that rule went into effect but they would still whack you a little and say they would tell everyone they had to adjust your stance for you or something. But they had pretty much stopped smacking people around. Even so there was still pretty good hazing on my ship. My unit had a locked room with classified docs in it that only we had access to, and when a new person would join we would tell them there was a meeting in that room and as soon as they got in the door would get locked and the beat down would start. Rules are: hit in the soft muscle areas, like the thighs, never hit organs, never hit face. Leave lots of bruises so they are wicked sore the next day. But it’s cool cause then you feel like you are one of the team and you get to help administer the next beat down.
