  1. “While financial services may be doing fine now, the rest of us aren’t.”

    I’m not FINE. My entire career has been directly involved with the financial services and law sectors. I’m not FINE. I’m going broke and losing my life’s savings one week at a time. IT’S NOT FINE.

    Yes, I’m cooking dinner, and walking around the neighborhood, the sun still rises in the east, and the birds still chirp. BUT IT’S NOT ALL BETTER NOW.

    G*D DAMMIT, I’m so tired of listening to this from myopic people who have managed to escape the worst of the ravages the rest of us are experiencing.

  2. Biff;

    Nonsense. We are not talking about witty parody or good-natured homor here. We’re talking about using another religion’s sacred image in a tasteless, lurid joke.

    If you don’t believe that you’ve crossed a line, fine. I know where you stand, and we’ll take it from there.

  3. “The proceedings (as always) are p.r. and the senators seem to have won.”

    And that’s exactly the problem with this witch hunt. Dumb this stuff down enough and twist the facts enough to give the public someone to blame for their problems and the Senators get a “win” as you put it. Zero progress, and the public gets to share in trumped up outrage based on twisted facts and deliberate misrepresentations by their elected officials.

  4. Benson, I considered ignoring your laughable tirade, but I’ll simply respond by saying, if you know anything about me, you’ll know I make fun of my own religion probably 10+ times more than I make fun of anyone else’s. And if your response is that doesn’t make it right, then we really have nothing to talk about. As an incredibly wise woman once said, “What point is religion if you can’t make light of it??”.

    I was responding to a prior poster in that thread who made a joke about finding a religious artifact in the tree. And as I said later on, sometimes a tree is just a tree. And sometimes a CGar is just a CGar (but we all love him still the same – no homo).

  5. So I had to see what all the fuss was about yesterday so I spent 2 hours yesterday watching the end of the committee questioning Blankfein. I have to say I agree with DIBS and Lech 100%. It was really pathetic to watch. I am not saying that Goldman isn’t the bad guy but it was obvious it was a masqueraded witch hunt that’s going to solve nothing but just to make the public happy and Blankfein even eluded to it when he said that this is better for everyone since this will put the common people and institutional investors in calming mood again that GS is not the bad wolf who’s going to blow their house away.

    I was in shock to some of the questions that were asked. At one point one of the Senators admitted that they don’t understand ANYTHING about the situation and wanted to know BLANKFEINs opinion and “pick his brain”. Wait a minute, aren’t they scolding him for doing wrong? Why pick his brain and ask for his advice? Then they asked him if he thought that FDIC can effectively run GS and answered their own question with the “NO” before Blanky can even say anything. Blanky actually ended up backing up the FDIC that it’s a good agency with knowledgeable people to which the Senator responded that they would NEVER be able to run a financial institution like GS effectively. The best they can do is sell it in bits and pieces and that’s the only thing that FDIC was good at.

    The only Senator that asked sort of the right questions was Montana Senator Tesler but at that point Blanky was dodging bullets like Neo in Matrix.
