Pete, when you give them the card/envelope. Tell then there would have been $ in it to contribute to their vacation, but you spent it at the cash bar.
^^^my nephew, btw..
pete, the vacation fund is a turn off. I can some what understand the cash bar, do all their friends drink like plusas?
What’s a nice gift to get a High School Grad?
“Do you think really low-class — this cash bar and contributions to travel in invite?”
Cash bar – eh
Contributions to travel – hell yeah, WTF?
rob, i would have walked out of the subway without the sandwich. They’re stuff is crap.
And you were missed, wasder! Next time get a babysitter, and bring Mrs. wasder!
No ifs, ands, or buts, buster!
where’d everyone go?
So I’m getting an invitation to a retirement party for long-time friend. The retiree’s domestic partner (friend of mine from college-also a teacher) is one throwing it.
Will be catered at a restaurant – and says cash bar and if want can contribute to fund for vacation trip.
Now – most cases I wouldn’t blink an eye….but he is retiring from teaching after 30 years — which gives him 60% of his final salary as pension and am sure final salary is over 100k. They have for good number of years taken at least 2 overseas trips a year. China, safari, Turkey, Bali, etc, etc, etc and they do not stay in Super8’s. They live in nice house – which have owned for 20 years.

( PS – this is upstate so not like they live in ParkSlope and all friends rich bankers and lawyers).
Now lets hear it from all the teacher-union hater people.
Cripes–what a party to miss. My wife had a work function and didn’t get home until 10. By then I had lost my steam. See you all next time. But I missed meeting Gemini and Mrs C! Damn!
