  1. I certainly do not begrudge workers the ability to make a decent living, ESPECIALLY non union workers. I think the unions have too much power and you are right, Snappy, management has to stand up to them.

  2. I just posted on the bike lane thread. I’ve had it with bicyclists. They just don’t follow any rules; they go through lights, go the wrong way on one ways, weave through traffic. Used to be the delivery guys, now that it is nice, the city is crawling with bike riders who don’t believe in rules.

  3. Snappy;

    What you say above is true. Like M4L said, I don’t blame the unions for asking.

    However, the public-srvice unions are a different story. As a taxpayer, it’s my money on the line, and so I’ll have something to say about it. Moreover, the public-service unions are singularly responsible for the corruption in Albany. If you don’t believe that, ask yourself why, despite a huge backlog of demand, the politicians in Albany put a cap on charter schools. The answer is simple: the UFT is the single biggest lobbyist in Albany, by far.

  4. I’m starting to believe the whole union thing is a matter of sour grapes for a lot of people. I’m not a big union fan, per se but look at the facts. Yeah, who wants to take pay freezes or cuts and contribute to their own healthcare or pay more towards it if they don’t have to? No one. They demanded something and they got it. If the rest of the working population could pull off the same feat, they’d be happy about it. No point in begrudging what someone else was able to accomplish by banding together. You can call it strong-arming, you can call it bullying, you can call it whatever you like. The union workers simply call it success. And bless ’em for being able to pull it off. Either employers have to learn not to be afraid of a strike or simply deal with the consequences of giving the union what they want. Bitching about it does nothing for anyone.
