  1. Yeah Ty, Super does. Apparently, if the building is over 55 units, by law we have to have a live-in Super. I guess we can technically make them pay market rates the days they will be on strike but I wont do that to our super. He is a bit obnoxious but a nice guy and does good in our building.

Ringo, yes, a lot of Supers, Superintendents, Porters, Handymen, etc. belong to the same Union(s) as doormen. These union folks are not stupid. If it was solely a doorman union, they would take forever to get what they want. They are probably building their case on other building positions as they know those are way more important.

  2. I know, cobble. They don’t report their allowance, either. Is it gift income if allowance is contingent on chores? Better keep rob away from our block’s stoop sale. There’s lemonade stands, bake sales, etc. But rob doesn’t pay for street finds, anyway, so I guess the kids on my block are safe.

  3. “Pete has a serious bug up his ass about the lost dog posters.

I wonder what he’d do to a couple of young kids with a lemonade stand on the sidewalk???”

    He’d try to unionize them!

  4. I haven’t been following this thing, but do Supers go on strike too? Brooklyn too?

I can’t believe the last strike was 20 years ago. It makes you feel very old when you remember things that happened 20 years ago — and they aren’t things from your childhood. I rented in a building FULL of staff back then. Doorman, mail sorter (why?), elev operator. I volunteered to run that awesome elevator. It was fun.
