Dave — I think Rob has bars on his window, right rob? And the (hot) bulge for the A/C is at the top and not the bottom… so you need to fill the space above the (small) unit.
DId I ever tell you guys about the squirrels coming in off my deck and stealing fruit from my kitchen counter last year?
I had the doors open to CGar’s deck, and I’m sitting facing away at my computer here, and I hear a THUD! I look over/out onto the deck and see a HALF EATEN nectarine sitting there!
This happened 4 dif. times last year! A couple times I looked over and saw squirrel creeping in, and I jumped up and chased it off!
rob – Either do as Snaps suggests w/ the plastic or scavenge around the ‘hood for bricks & pile them on top of the a.c. after you’ve poked the ersatz buffalo out of the hole. Then put a wooden backing to hold the bricks in place – gives you a little time to do it properly.
Snappy — I woke up to that sound. A large creature in your walls RUNNING and CLAWING trying to get out… and no real sense of where the sound was coming from.
Rob, sounds like you need plexiglass screwed in to fill / cover that openning. Many people do that instead of that accordian sleeve thing that comes with the AC

I had squirrels in my attic in P-Town. They tore off some of the roof shingles around the vent to get in!!!!!
