CPI +2.3% Y-O-Y and +1.1% Ex Food & Energy. These numbers were lower than expected.
Let’s hear it from the interest rate bears…BHO??? Are mortgage rates soon headed for 7%, 8%????
Additionally, Advance Retail Sales +1.6% vs. expectations of +1.2% and CSX says all forms of cargo are very strong (except coal).
AAPL says IPad demand well above expectations, postpones international debut!!!!

JPM just beat estimates by 15% and, most importantly, had a “reduction in provisions for credit losses.” As Mike Holland put it “this was an embarrassment of riches.”
Stock up over 3% in pre-market.

this is why NYC looks way better, econ-wise, vs so many cities around the country – ie when banks do this well, their employees will be showered with $$$ once again.

So our co-op super and porter is part of that doorman union. Thank god our Mgmt company will be making arrangements to get our garbage removed just in case union goes on strike so I wouldn’t have to shlep our own garbage but it sucks that we’ll prolly pay a pretty penny for it if the strike lasts for more than a few days.
By slopefarm on April 14, 2010 10:00 AM
What was wrong with the M-K thread, how did you shame him and how is it different now? I don’t see any edits or corrections.
By daveinbedstuy on April 14, 2010 10:01 AM
Kens, take out your own garbage for a few weeks. Don’t cave into union demands so easily. If your CCs go up they’ll be up a lot more than the hurt to take out garbage once a week for a few weeks. And go home at lunch to walk the goat yourself.
By Arkady on April 14, 2010 10:09 AM

“so I wouldn’t have to shlep our own garbage”
I don’t understand why you don’t use your goat to haul the garbage? Isn’t it time he earned his keep ‘stead of just eating the vegetation from your window boxes all day?
By benson on April 14, 2010 10:09 AM
Hey Joe from Brooklyn and Pete.
Please explain to us why we should put up with this nonsense from the civil-service unions, at a time of rising taxes, rising fares and service cuts:
Who the hell are these unions to dictate work rules like how many buses can be deployed in a terminal?? This should be MANAGEMENT’s job. Of course, when you have powerful unions who corrupt Albany every step of the way, featherbedding like this is the norm.
And please spare me the platitudes about how we should be focused on the “rich and greedy”. The taxpayers can walk and chew gum at the same time. Whatever malfeasance occurs on Wall Street and corprorate borardrooms does NOT justify unions fleecing the taxpayers. Spare me the populist rhetoric, and justify this featherbedding. I’d like to know how this is justified.
If I sound pissed off, it’s because I am. At a time when many folks in private industry have had to endure cutbacks in their pay and benefits, the entitlement attitude of many civil servants grates on me.
By dirty_hipster on April 14, 2010 10:14 AM
But Benson – you just don’t understand the plight of the working man

Dave, I would totally take out my own garbage but the building has 90 apartments and TRUST me it’s a LOT of work. We have a porter full-time for that kind of stuff. I know what’ you’re saying though. Do we pay the super’s salary while he is on strike with the union or not? I know we’ll have an arragement for someone else to take out the garbage meanwhile.
By Butterfly on April 14, 2010 10:15 AM
arkady i cant find where exactly it is in that link. it was supposedyl on spring street according to your last posting, but it doesnt say where in that thing
when union members are on strike believe they get some strike pay via union coffers (ie probably funded by union dues). probably reduced pay but they get something

I’m going to see the show Hair tonight…anybody been…what did you think?
why someone would pay money to see very unattractive naked people singing ridiculous hippie songs is beyond me.

“The Glass Menagerie” was tres good.
donatella, don’t feel bad. I almost did that with a 13-comment thread yesterday.
