I don’t know about that M4L. I may run into Rob or Legion, who both seem like fun people generally, but also have a habit of making what I think are some really stupid comments. I’m not sure how I’d handle that in person. So maybe it’s better if I just avoid the possibility.
Legion, get a grip. Believe it or not, all women do not make decisions about how they feel about abortion rights by the dictates of political party. There are pro-choice Republicans and pro-life Democrats.
While I may not be able to conceive of why any woman would want to wear a burkha, I think we are supposed to be accepting of all religious practices here, and if a woman in America chooses to wear one, I don’t see how it is any of our business. It’s pretty hard to give up cultural habits, especially when a woman’s family still has say over what she is able to do, especially those tied to religion. That will not change just because someone moves to the United States. We cease being America when we start dictating what people have to wear.
so my new building has this online site all residents can log into – and they have this weird facebook-esque part of it where you can make a profile! gack!!
apparently, your views are inconsistent with the DNC and NOW platforms.
I don’t care about the NOW platform and never did, never supported them and never will. And I don’t believe in the DNC platform on the issue either. But I don’t believe in one issue politics. Unfortunately, my views are severely inconsistent with what purports to be the Republican party’s views as well. There are actually a few pro-life Democrats out there. So there is MY political dilema. I got very tired of being berated by fellow Catholics who would rather have supported the twisted politics which led up into the Iraq war to have a view consistent on abortion — . And given all of that, I think Sarah Palin is all of the things I mentioned above…
1. Liberals would describe her with words like “spirited” and “feisty” and “principled” and would say her leadership ability just needs to be brought out with a few more years of experience and training.
2. Conservatives who pointed out her obvious weaknesses would be accused of being chauvenist.
3. Liberals would put her on a pedestal as a working mother who has made sacrifices to fight for what she believes in.
And you wonder why your coworkers won’t eat food you make for them at office parties, a thing I defended you about when you first posted it.

If Palin were a liberal:
1. Liberals would describe her with words like “spirited” and “feisty” and “principled” and would say her leadership ability just needs to be brought out with a few more years of experience and training.
2. Conservatives who pointed out her obvious weaknesses would be accused of being chauvenist.

These three things are pretty much irrefutable.
