DH, I was at the BK Ikea yesterday and one thing I notice is some of their stuff looks and feels much nicer than stuff I recall from visits a year or so ago. Their office stuff is pretty nice (ie for you lap top, storage)
“In recent years, credits for low- and middle-income families have grown so much that a family of four making as much as $50,000 will owe no federal income tax for 2009, as long as there are two children younger than 17, according to a separate analysis by the consulting firm Deloitte Tax.
…
The result is a tax system that exempts almost half the country from paying for programs that benefit everyone, including national defense, public safety, infrastructure and education. It is a system in which the top 10 percent of earners — households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 — paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government.”
*Rob*, you’re the guy who talk about poo mist, right? Here’s a story for you. So I hurt by back pretty bad about a week ago, and I started wearing Icy Hot patches on my lower back (you know, big patches that deliver the Icy Hot menthol stuff to sore muscles, you leave them on for like 6 hours at a time). Wore them for about 24 hours straight, even while I was sleeping. Well it turns out those patches really send the menthol right into the body wherever you wear them. And I was wearing them in the small of my back. Well anyways the next morning I went to the bathroom and the entire bathroom smelled like menthol.
Legion, most of the cabinet members and advisers have never run a business or been in private indutry where there is accountability and a focus on cost controls.
I have a theory on the vast amount of people who pay taxes, especially the ones over 55…more and more of them are going to just opt out of working because they take less and less home. They have enough retirement savings to live on so they will dramatically ratchet down their income levels and shift into retirement mode, paying far less taxes than they would if they continued to work. And they won’t give a damn anymore about what happens. they will have shifted themselves into much lower tax brackets and be able to live comfortably!!!
Lech, I was all prepared to go TMI on your ass, but that was actually pretty funny.
And the idea of seemingly sterilized, mentholized and sanitary-smelling poo mist is a hoot. Sort of.
Perhaps *rob* won’t find it so.

…and yes, I’m still p’d off about paying taxes this month.
I also mentioned this idea in one of the threads here about two months ago;
the VAT (Value Added Tax), a national tax on everyone.

Great idea to close the huge trillion plus deficits,
…and having a permanent unemployment rate above 10%
You have to read MM’s Walkabout. It’s dripping with juicy gossip from a bygone era.

“I haven’t heard much from him and lately he’s been short in his emails (re-write ET?)”
Too easy. I’ll pass. Give me more of a challenge.
