Sorry for the late response.
I too have family members who went the route of uniformed services.
It’s always been a great option.
From what I understand the NY pension fund is still well funded, but new hires are faced with much less generous benefits in the future,
NYPD now has a Tier 5, I believe just to cut down on the pension benefits.

I distinctly remember however, that they never came around to my high school to recruit for any of these services as an option. I went to a public high school.

I have a kinda funny story…

I went to the post office yesterday to buy stamps. I get on the line and directly in front of me is this really tall, broad shouldered thug of a guy who is completely playing up his almighty thugness by scowling, mumbling under his breath about the MF’ing postal workers and the line, scrolling through the texts on his his cellie, etc.

I’m standing there and have Olivia in the stroller. She is staring up at his and studying his face like she’s going to be asked to recall it later. She’s got a real serious scowl in her face. All of a sudden she screams out. He looks down at her and she smiles. He turns back away and she screams again, he looks again and she smiles a big toothless, all gums grin at him.

All of a sudden super thug is a pile of mush talking and cooing at her. She’s waving her arms and legs all excited and will not wipe the smile off her face. He even doubled back to say goodbye to her when he was leaving.

My girl has a thing for thugs. Oh great!
