  2. gah. so the house my grandmother was all intent to start renting she lost because they asked for THREE months of security deposit!! that’s insane. and this house is in a section 8 neighborhood to boot!!! (she wont be getting section 8 when she moves into her own place (im sure her son’s baby momma family who she lives with now is on it tho) but she gets social security, which is more than enough to have been able to cover the 500 a month in rent the house was.) im just shocked that a landlord is asking for three whole months of security deposit, which makes me wonder, do landlords who rent to section 8 tenants get 3 months of security deposit sent to them as a check from the government? i was under the assumption that section 8 tenants actually have to come up with the security deposit on their own? anyway, that sucks for her because this lame little house in a sketch neighborhood in SOUTH CAROLINA would have just ridiculous rules for security deposits.

  3. Pete, there is an area of Utica with fine, huge old houses that are practically falling down from neglect. They are around a square or park. I can’t remember the name. I saw about three or four on a realtor’s website, which linked to individual sites for several of the properties, all of which were absolutely amazing. They were extremely historic, with excellent provenance, and were from several different periods, but mostly from around 1860’s-80’s. They would all make great B&B’s or even private homes. Most had about 20 rooms. I remember Utica enough to know that almost the whole city tanked in the last quarter of the 20th c, and this place is no longer in the “nice” part of town. Is that where you mean?
