Legion, I’m beginning to seriously think it’s just an inevitable progression of societies to go from conservative principles to large government ones. First Europe, now America, in 75 years China and India, then Africa. When I’m on my deathbed all my kids will be talking about is having to fly to Johannesburg for a tech meeting; all the jobs have been exported from Beijing to there.
When I adopted my daughter from China, we flew home on business class courtesy of my brother’s frequent-flyer miles. I could see the looks-that-would-kill from the businessmen in the lounge as we waited to get on the plane, me with a 2-year-old, them with their $5,000 tickets. Fortunately she was a good girl and didn’t scream for 5 or 6 or 10 hours.

I flew from Australia to LAX (and vice versa) with an 8 week old once. No problem. We also flew with her to New Zealand (7 mos old) and to Phuket (9 mos old). Also no problem. Also from Australia to San Fran, via Hawaii (11 mos). Still no problem. Now she’s 4 and her siblings are 3 and 1 and taking them on a 2 1/2 flight to Kansas City can be a major pain in the ass.
He does have a good point about travelling first class though. Who wants to be jammed in back in steerage with all those kids and crying babies and the hoi polloi in general.

jester,
intersting article,
the western world will find itself struggling with the ideas of cost more and more in the coming years,
needless to say, the message will not be popular to
large segments of society who are not about to give up the generosity of the government.
this will be even more of a problem for nations with increasing populations of recent immigrants.
class warfare will be a potent tool in mitigating the message of fiscal austerity.
whether warranted or not.

the brits prefer the mushy ones to the mashpees.
“fine with Indian style ”
Although I’ve known a Scocale, a Mashpee, a patowonamee, a Menominee and a Cherokee, I’ve never actually done it “Indian style.”
I did do it on the ground next to the train tracks behind the bar in Hyannis with the Mashpee though.

Dave, I agree. I always run for the quiet car when I take Amtrak.
fine with Indian style but I don’t go for that welshing(welching) term.
Robert Graves said the worst thing about English public schools was the homosexual love affairs the boys all fell into.
