“Higher interest rates only come with higher inflation. be very careful what you wish for.”
“:-(”
But that’t the point. If you lock in a low rate long term and then the cost of living starts to rise faster, you are essentially losing money.
Why doesn’t she stick it in a Vanguard money market for now — roughly same interest as a CD but far more liquid (easier to do something else with), then move it to a CD in a few years if rates are higher. She could also put a small amount in plain vanilla index mutual fund (Vanguard S&P) just to get a little more return without too much risk if she only puts a small amount there.
Mutual Fund is like investing in a whole big mix of stocks at once, so you don’t get hurt if just one of them fails. You rise and fall with the market, not an individual company, but all the money is in one place, you don’t have to track the individual stocks. Pick one with a good track record and very low costs, like the one I mentioned above.

ok glad you bullied your way past the label folks to get up to the front?
hmmm that’s weird that he would stand there playing a guitar with his back against the audience

yeah – it was very enjoyable. i guess i’m probably being a little too critical about DM since I assumed he didn’t have must experience playing live (i was promptly correct outside by two hipsters -who informed me DM used to be the keyboardist for the roots – which i was not aware of)
def a great show tho – i’d def see them again in another small venue like that!! best of luck to them!! any word on how the album is selling?
I’m pretty ignorant about all that stuff but it looks to me as if the CD rates are no better than an insured mkt rate account at a bank & with those you have total liquidity.
Snaps, Email me and I’ll tell you about my broker and mutual fund experience. They are easy to liquidate, the return is pretty stable — since I’m a chicken-sh*t investor, and my broker is a good guy — may dad used him for years. You could speak with him directly.
She’s paid off debt, etc. This is “extra” $$$…from my dad’s ins. policy payout…she’s willing to put up a max of 10K to try to make some money off of it. But, her fear factor leads her to not want to be cut off from it for more than 3 years.
If the money market fund rates are similar to CD rates, then I’d go with that.
First, tell me…a mutual fund is a spread of stock purchases?

Then just shop around for 3 year CDs. If she will need the money, an annuity is not the right thing to get your capital back.

Is New York Life a stable ins. co?
