  1. How come Asian cultures, even American Asians don’t hit on/pick-up/talk to women on the trains/clubs/random locales. I have seen about every other culture/race do that but not Asians for some reason? Is that out of respect? cultural thing? overall insecurity?

I guess you don’t know any korean guys!!!! it’s a cultural thing, mostly.

  2. At the risk of sounding like one of the crazy cat ladies (and you know who you are). Speaking of dogs, and as Cobble can attest, CDog is 100% back to where she was before her leg problems started last October, followed by a bad infection. She’s back to frolicking like a puppy, which isn’t too shabby for a 15-year-old. Her new thing is, if I’m walking in front of her, she’ll lift her front paw and smack me on the back of my leg to get my attention – you prolly have to be there, but trust me it’s hysterical to watch.

  3. I gave $20 to a guy playing sax on Broad Street across from the NYSE one night in November 2001. It was echoing up and down the mostly empty street. It was beautiful. I gave a dollar to a string quartet in a Boston T stop in the late ’90s. And I gave a few bucks (maybe $5) to a sax / base duo in front of Fanuil Hall in 2002. They were playing “In the Mood.” Those are the only times I have ever given anyone money on the street.

  4. Foghorn in the night question:

Not sure how to find an answer to this, hoping the brilliant folks here might solve the mystery.

I live in Park Slope, and regularly at nights I hear a foghorn/shiphorn noise. I figure I’m too far from the bay for it to actually be a ship/foghorn to be heard so clearly/loudly, and it doesnt make sense that the Gowanus Canal would have one. Anyone know what it is and where it comes from?

A fresh connecticut muffin to anyone who solves this so I can finally rest.

  5. Cobble, Pedro, I’m pretty sure I know the woman you’re talking about. There’s also another woman, grocery cart piled high with cans, huge bags of cans hanging off all 4 sides, who I see in the blocks around LICH – she has no teeth, always smacks her gums. Have you seen her?

Then there’s the little old man who sweeps in front of all the shops on Atlantic (prolly too much can competition in the area for him to break into it).

And, finally, Cobble, there’s the mean woman on Amity Street who hates dogs and their people!!!

  6. snappy,

T Rowe Price has a short term bond fund. It has low volatility and decent returns, much better than a cd. I’ve got my parents rainy day money invested there. CDs have too many rules and no access without high fees.

  7. “you talking about the one with beautiful gray hair and smiling?”

Yes. That may be, but I hope to g*d that I’m not out collecting cans at that age. On the other hand I could be doing worse things…like posting here! : P
