Saturday morning, we wanted to go t Greenwood Cemetery. We drove up to the gate and they wouldn’t let us in cause of ‘Hazard Road Conditions’ 🙁
We parked and walked in after being warned at the gate that we do so at our own risk. We didn’t get far cause after a few hills I was exhausted 🙁
It was beautiful in the snow.
Times map showed us again on the edge of heavy accumulation for Tues/Weds. I heard that Central Pk. got zilch over the weekend. We got about half an inch.
Driving Rant of the Day
Okay, it’s really a Parking Rant
Yesterday, I get to my nabe at about 6pm and start looking for parking. I do the usual round of a 5-block radius in all directions. I go around again, again, AGAIN. Nothing. While you occasionally find Parking Pigs (people that don’t know how to take up only one spot), Yesterday, there were about a dozen or so cars that were hogging up more than one spot. I had to park 15 blocks away!
If you own a car in NYC:
– Learn to leave no more than 12″ between you and the car in front and behind you. And if you can’t get into and out of that 12″ gap, you’re a moran and shouldn’t have a car.
– If you’re parking by a driveway , you don’t need to leave 3′ before the curb cut. Pull your car right up to the edge of the curb cut!
– Crosswalks with two white lines. I realize they made the crosswalks bigger for pedestrians BUT you can park your car up to the ‘old’ white line, not the first one you come across. There was a huge campaign informing people of this. I even got a flyer in the mail.
– If it’s rear angle parking. That’s what it means. Rear in, NOT head first. You look like an idiot cause your car is facing the wrong way.
There are two lines painted on the street in Rear Angle Parking. Your car should be BETWEEN THOSE TWO WHITE LINES! Don’t take up more than one space by being over the white line.
– If you’re parking between two curb cuts and there’s room for two cars to park. DO NOT park your car in the middle. Pull it forward or back so someone else can fit.
STOP being a Parking Pig and learn how to park your car, so others can also park theirs.
Be a little considerate of others. You and your car aren’t the only ones that exist in NYC!!
The streets were cleare rather quickly, much quicker and better than the last snowfall about 4 weeks ago. Even our very small side street next to us was cleared by Sunday morning.
ExTex – What gripes me is not being able to park at churches. And around here the church has 2 or 3 huge vans that they park & use up a ton of space.
My tenants said there was about a half an inch in Brooklyn.. It is bone-dry here in manhattan.

Impressive, DIBS. That’s what I’m hearing, any sense yet of how much?

I guess we’re getting more on Tuesday night….up here too.

But, I think they’ve run out of salt.
Anyone have a lightly used modern sofa they’d like to sell me at a deeply discounted price?
