joe,
don’t we all wish that an omnipotent and omniscient God could exact a precise and just retribution for the evil that men do…
but men are not gods
and war is hell.
holding the American response up to standards of divine
wisdom is an exercise in self flagellation.
An American plant warned the Germans 12 hours before D-Day, in order to enhance his standing but too late to allow any logistic support by the Germans.
“I have very little confidence a new attack by a homegrown terrorist can be stopped; the process of radicalization is unwinnable as it now stands. We are really fucked.”

I completely agree. It’s a matter of time before the suicide bombers who are blowing up random places in Iraq and Pakistan make their names here in NYC as “Martyrs”
And the leaders of Afghanistan admitted al Queda was there and refused to give them up after they took responsibility for the attack.
If someone came in your house and, god forbid, shot someone in your family and they were over on the next street blogging about it wouldn’t you want the police to storm that house and drag them out????

But in neither case were there any specific details.
We were also warned about the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Months before 9-11 the Taliban (along with Russia, Israel, etc.) actually warned us about Bin Laden.
Iraq was a mistake. I predict Bush will eventually admit it just like Nixon admitted Watergate (and Vietnam) was a mistake.
