Thanks guys. The contract was signed some time ago and one of the conditions was if they decide to move the job to the soul draining city, I go. It’s looking like it’s 70% likely. I’m just really bummed about the possibility of leaving NYC.
Rob’s right – it’s ignorant parents who march into the school when their kid gets suspended for fighting or if they feel their kid isn’t favored etc etc
my mom taught in the South Bronx in the 70’s and used to break up fights all the time.
however she also said she HATED teaching the honors kids b/c of how socially inept they were. They couldn’t understand why she gave them a 90 and not a 95 . She said the best kids to teach were always in the middle b/c they tended to be normal and more social and could evaluate things better
ExText- permanent relocation? Of just for a time- like 6 months? How soul-crushing a city? If the job is really great and is a means to an end, maybe its worth considering. Every city has assets- you’ll find the enjoyable aspects, and maybe even change your opinion 🙂
Or, as biff points out- you can give us 2 separate excuses for a party.
Absolutely Rob… that is part of it! And the traditional schools aren’t doing anything to turn that trend around. This is a problem that needs to be tackled from all angles… the schools are PART of the solution.
Joe, 45k is a huge #. My parents made much less than that and worked super hard for it. My brother and I turned out pretty well so I say my parents did a great job raising us in this city even though they made peanuts. so can’t agree with comment 45k aint enough to raise family in this city. of course, we rented, don’t own a car, didn’t routinely take nice vacations each yr,….
