  1. rob, for once you are right, the original WTC did sit fairly empty for years. Of course that was during the last really big recession in NYC.

However real estate is like that. It takes so long to get it done that folx always seem to be building during a boom and then pulling in during a recession. The great minds always do the opposite.

It is quite possible that by the time this is finished the economy will have recovered and the demand for office space will be strong.

There isn’t a *giant* glut of office space either, especially Class A space.

dibs, I was with you but I was very impressed with what I saw today. An awful lot going on underground and that is about to ‘blow up’ soon. I was told there are welders working of the Freedom Tower 24/7.

Me too, Dave. Still do. (Just strolled over to the Monday Links thread. And I totally agree with you guys on the subway tickets.)

    Welcome back, asshole. 🙂

  4. Pete, it happened it 2001…it still had until 2008 to get put up before things collapsed; and, like CGar said, the Empire State Building was put up quickly in the height of the depression.

The econmy as it is now IS NOT TO BLAME FOR THIS.

I was mostly kidding, denton. I am sure there are some fine parents among the OT posters. All I can say are there are no absolutes when it comes to parenting. The most important ingredients and love and patience. In many ways it’s a crapshoot. You can do everything “right” and still have a screwed up kid. The reverse also holds true.

  6. You can toss in the Port Authority too, dave. they control the site and are the biggest obstruction.

denton- don’t know if you’re interested but there is a possibility of a preview tour of the memorial site with one of the WTC groups. If it happens and you want to go with me I can see if that’s doable.
