  1. i was for the most part bribed non stop with video games and candy growing up as a kid. because everyone one of my grandparents kids turned out to be a major league screw-up, i think they perhaps thought id go that route too (i know i know, it’s debateable whether or not i did… i only went slightly off track well into my adulthood, so it’s irrelevant) so they’d just buy me video games and candy all the time so id get good grades and not get in trouble, which i would have done anyway without or without the bribery, but they didnt have to know that. plus the bribes made up for everything else that was sucky.

  2. I haven’t owned actual pajamas since I was in elementary school. I remember the packaging and style of my last pair of “pj’s”. They looked like they were from 1952 (this was 1991).

  3. I was never really hit but I was a relatively well-behaved child. I think I might have been smacked a couple of times but it was always for something really bad/dangerous like drinking bleach under the sink or trying to kill my sister.

  4. Calling a kid any kind of name is counter-productive – the adult puts himself at the kid’s emotional level. Much better to try to haul the kid up towards the adult level. A kid has no-holds-barred approach in a power struggle whereas an adult presumably does so there’s no point dealing w/ the kid on his terms. If the ‘rent can’t cope w/ negative emotions she’ll never be able to teach the kid to do so. You don’t have to go to the P S Parent idea of explaining in detail, just tell the kid he’s behaving in an unacceptable way & you know he can do better. Calling names will just escalate the battle.
