  1. hi folks,

    lol, jessi

about the child. to be sure, there are children who are ass-like. they are basically a reflection of the parent in my experience with other children. they can be bossy, nasty and sometimes dangerous if left to their own devices. as long as the comment was not directed to the child, it seems like someone stating their opinion.

as far as discipline, I find that taking away a child’s favorite toy for a period of time is very effective, so is sitting them in the corner for a period of 5-10 minutes. the key is follow through. don’t know how long this will be effective however as littlelegion is moving up quickly in Shotokan Karate and has a pretty good side kick.

  2. jb — something tells me ET is not connected with Park Slope Parents. Meanwhile, if you do find someone to post it there, give us all some notice so we can prepare. Fallout shelters are hard to find these days.

Meanwhile, there’s an old (1960s era) jewish joke about parents with an unruly child. Child went on one tantrum after another for weeks and parents couldn’t do anything about it. Finally, they call in a world-reknowned child psychologist. The psychologist comes in to the home, sits down with the child and whispers in his ear for five seconds. The child comes running over, crying mommy, mommy, I’m sorry, I’ll be good from now on, etc.

After the child happily goes off to play, the parents ask this esteemed clinician what happened. He told them, “I just whispered “Listen tsatskeleh, if you don’t apologize to your parents and stop misbehaving this instant, I’ll give you such a potch on the tuches you won’t sit down for a week.”
