I agree with Dave and others who say the Dems got exactly what they deserved in Massachusetts (and, let me remind you, I’m a lifelong Democrat who has only voted for 2 Republicans for NYC Mayor). Martha Coakley slept through the campaign, arrogantly assuming the seat was hers for the taking, but not worthy of her asking for it. And since no one in the media will say it, let me: Scott Brown is hot. And that had to be worth a few points.
Dems have been overreaching just as the GOP did when it controlled Congress and the White House. Catering to the far left and letting Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid run the show was a huge mistake. I’m with the 60% of the country in the middle. Until the President and Congress start governing for silent majority in the middle, and not for the leftwingnuts or the rightwingnuts, the incumbents of both parties are going to continue to be voted out – so Republicans will be greatly misreading the election results if they think Brown’s victory was an endorsement of their policies, or lack thereof.
While last night’s upset was thrilling, at the same time, the Teacher’s Union sock puppets, also known as our State Assembly, killed NY State’s chance of receiving $700 million, yes $700 million, in federal aid that was conditioned on the expansion of the number of charter schools.
There are no words strong enough to express my contempt for the teacher’s union and our State Assembly, especially that uber-slime-bucket, Sheldon Silver. Furthermore, I have special contempt for those assemblymen from poor minority districts who put their political interests (read: UFT) over the interests of the children in their district who are stuck in failing schools. The NY Post has an excellent picture today of the UFT’s chief lobbyist, in full public view, sitting down with the Education Commissioner before the vote, and it is clear who is calling the shots. You think the NYT would publish such a photo? Not on your life.
Albany needs a Giuliani-type pit-bill to clean the place up. It is such a cess-pool of special interest potlitics, totally dominated by the civil-service unions who feed at the public trough.
Jameson and ginger is nice.
Slopey – Bitters & soda (it’s thematic, too.)

Pass me a couple of teabags, Benson. 😉
DIBS, Etson and Legion;
Our work is never done, however.

Dave, I think Soda has more sugar than cranberry juice but I might be wrong. How bout Vodka Tonic? seems like a popular one as well.
I know Kens is gonna kick me
But vodka is all the same shit – flavorless, odorless spirit
Pretend you’re a man and order a scotch and soda or a bourbon & soda…none of this girly, Russian vodka shit.
To me, the vodka matters. Better quality = less hangover. As for which one to choose, I’m fine with stoli but also not a huge vodka drinker.
Too much sugar in cranberry juice, especially the crap that they use at bars.
