  1. IJ- “soft racism?” As opposed to the hard racism of some people here who assume the woman is gaming the system , ripping us all of as a welfare queen and should be called a leech and every other name in the book simply for living in a big apartment you think might be heavily subsidized? Right.

  2. “had to put their hands down their pants and then present them to the inspector who checked for traces of bomb making materials.”

Oh boy, the re-writes and puns that can be done with this!

    I’ll start:
Is that a bomb in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

  3. I’m totally with Rob on this one. When I was in college at F.I.T. we were smack next to the projects in Chelsea (very snazzy projects I might add) and I met and befriended a few people who lived there.

One was a guy who was 28 years old and lived with his mother and his 39 year old sister in a 4 bedroom. It was HUGE! Every one of these people worked. The place was decked out beyond comprehension. They had money hand over fist because they were living there practically for free since they were kids. What bullcrap. The mother should have been pushed out into a 1 bed once those kids were over the age of 21.

The system is broken. They need to reassess these residents annually. This should include a randomly scheduled home visit so they can see who actually lives in these joints.

Handouts should be reserved only for the people who actually need them. Not just given away as bonuses to anyone who’s smart enough to get one over on the system.

  4. quote:
when the obvious drug dealers, obvious rich folks (ie wow, your lexus/bmw/mercedes in the parking lot is hot), no incentive to work but milk the system & piss in the hallway, elevator,… folks get booted then she’s fair game. Until then, nothing wrong with her living there.

but they arent essentially BRAGGING about it in the NYTimes!
it’s so funny just a few weeks ago i was talking about i really wish the real estate section of the times would have an article about people who live in the projects. it would totally be an interesting article. but instead they print this article instead, which probably only makes only serves to make people who dont live in the projects more chary of the projects! grrrrr @ the new york times for being a bunch of elitist class baiters.

    *rob*

  5. For the record, pun intended, I have always loved Manfred Mann’s Blinded By the Light.
