you can paint her as the biggest saint in the world, but i still dont believe her and her grown son deserve a subsidized three bedroom apartment when that apartment could go to someone who is more deserving. i dont give a crap if she’s a humanitarian and does good in the community, fair is fair, and in this situation it is UNFAIR.
i dont think the article brought out the worst in anyone at all. there’s a fine line between fair and not fair and Mrs Flowers and her middle aged son do not deserve to live in a 3 bedroom apartment for a measly 1000 dollars a month
Pissed at me now bxgrl (but I read the War Poets like you! *sniff*) Get ready – you’ll be apoplectic when you read this, however today for reasons I posted about I’m loaded for bear.
Actually I misquoted President George W. Bush, who said in his 2000 nomination speech, a speech which moved me so deeply I burst into tears, “soft bigotry.”
Biff – yes, govt’s are more reactive nowadays than proactive and to think that they are really catching the “bad guys” when someone’s Grandma is getting frisked for 2 hours is beyond me. I like the idea of the scanners, I also like the idea of having airport security checkpoints surrounded b armmed militia with dogs and the security personnel shouldn’t be a $12/hour worker who got this gig rather than the customer service gig at Kinkos
– use a machine to get your boarding pass (fortch, I printed mine ahead of time)
– check in with the Agent (lineup for Air Canada at Pearson was as far as the eye could see)
– have someone check your boarding pass before US customs
– go through US customs
– go through metal detector (everything off but your pants and shirt, please). I thought I was done at this point, as one usually is, but the worst was yet to come
– go through new SECOND check before the gates where one gets in another huge lineup that snakes through the airport shops to wait for a search whereby some man goes through every item in the one carry on you’re allowed (no backpacks, please) and does a body search along with basically forcing you and your children to fondle yourself in front of him
– show your boarding pass and passport to the Agent prior to getting on the plane
Finally, board the plane, whereby the pilot eventually comes on and invites you to sit back, relax and enjoy the flight!!!
Biff, You know my heritage so bam I’m on the list. Plus couple that with traveling partners who are from countries that are on the ‘terrorist list’ and passports with stamps from Middle East Countries that are NOT allies of the US.
Sticking your hands down your pants is nothing compared to what we’ve been thru.

As an aside, the guy I knew from the projects- White Irish. Actually thinking back, he looked very much like Rob does.
“Neither did I appreciate being accused of “soft racism” by IJ. But I guess that was ok in your book?”
Actually I didn’t read jester’s post that way. I didn’t think he was calling you a racist, soft or otherwise.
jester, not to sound like too much of an idiot, but will you please clarify what you meant by your “soft racism” post?
This is the process for getting to one’s gate:
– use a machine to get your boarding pass (fortch, I printed mine ahead of time)
– check in with the Agent (lineup for Air Canada at Pearson was as far as the eye could see)
