Here’s a great piece by Gartman on the janet napolitano statement…..
ON THE POLITICAL FRONT, we have lived
through or read about some of the truly silliest
comments from political figures over the years, but
none… truly none… comes close to the abject silliness
of the statements made by Ms. Janet Napolitano, the
Secretary of Homeland Security here in the US who
said over the weekend that in the end “the system
worked†when it came to the un-successful attempt by
an Islamic terrorist to bring down the now famous
Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
Perhaps Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s “There
will be peace in our time†comes close: perhaps former
presidential candidate George McGovern’s “I stand
behind him 1000%†only one day before jettisoning
Sen. Thomas Eagleton as his vice presidential
candidate†comes closed. Perhaps George Bush’s
statement in support of his head of FEMA, Mr. Michael
Brown, in the midst of the Katrina Crisis…â€Brownie
you’re doing a heck of a job here….†comes close.
Perhaps Vice President Biden’s comment on
employment…†“Look, John’s last-minute economic
plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing
the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says,
a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs…” comes
close. But for sheer audacity and for sheer ignorance,
Ms. Napolitano’s comments stand head and shoulders
above these others. The system had nothing to do
with the aborted terrorist threat… nothing at all. Rather,
swift action by a courageous passenger and an equally
courageous flight attendant coupled with the
incompetence of the terrorist himself saved the
situation becoming a tragedy. The system failed…
utterly and completely, and Ms. Napolitano appears to
be wholly out of her level of competence.
Had a Bush Administration official made such a truly
idiotic statement the media would have howled…
incessantly and loudly. Thus far the media has done
nothing other than wave Ms. Napolitano’s comments
off and relegate them to the inconsequential when
instead they are inordinately consequential, downright
stupid and potentially lethal.
Brownstone prices have not bottomed anywhere but in “team bull’s” wishful thinking.
I am getting less pessimistic about the future, but as of NOW, despite record low inventory, sales are still weak.
as much as I would like to dispute DIBS on brownstone prices bottoming out, it certains feels close to that per my shopping experience. only the stupid price houses are sitting. Decent priced ones are selling fairly quick. and my low-ball offers are getting soundly rejected now vs. previous “I’ll get back to you” responses.
I saw a chart recently that shows the number of years that President’s top advisers and cabinet officials have spent in the business world and Obama’s numbers are the lowest in many decades.
Many of these people are clueless.

Add lack of security experience to that list.
…and our candidate for servile political toady of the month goes to:
Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano, for this priceless quote;
“When it came right down to it, the system worked…”
Dec. 27th
speaking about Homeland Security response to terrorist activity on Flight 253.
(previous security/intelligence experience, ZERO. Irony of situation, PRICELESS.)
Brownstone prices have bottomed. That’s all that matters.

LOL
Legion, I heard that she retracted that statement! Better than that old emergency response dude that only had experience in palatino ponies, though.

You agree it would help to have some familiarity with the subject that you are advising on, no?
