  1. Republican Rant Of The Day:

I went to a large Republican function yesterday evening
    and I was not happy.

It was held at a 3rd rate hall with mirrored walls (think pasted on panels as opposed to The Louvre) and chintzy chandelier lighting.
How did I know it was chintzy? Because it had flourescent LED lighting (and it wasn’t about being green).

It was way overcrowded and they actually didn’t have enough tables to seat the people who all paid a decent amount to be there, so as speeches are being made you have this parade of people wandering about asking if “this seat was taken?”. My friend and I offered a seat to an attractive woman, nevermind that the seat was occupied by some guy who went looking for an open bar.
Did I mention there was NO BAR!

So it’s about 8:30PM and the crowd has had about enough with the speeches and all we’ve been offered so far is one piece of cold, crusty bread and a carafe of red wine which had the body of frat party punch. Would it kill them to put out an inexpensive Beaujolais?

I drank the frat punch anyway.

    Another half hour goes by.

Finally, somebody decides it’s diner time and I’m thinking we’ll be ushered into an adjoining room for a nice banquet.

    I thought wrong.

Out come the sterno’s followed by the most pitiful examples of “all you can eat” chow this side of Pelican Bay Penitentary. Penne a la vodka, chicken franchaise, meatballs which had the hue of Lon Chaney’s mask in the original black & white Phantom and a giant salad bowl with all the appeal of a bale of hay.

As I’m deciding on which way to go, a spontaneous line of people forms in all of 30 seconds and winds quickly around the room and out the entry hall. WTF?

At this point, I turned to my dinner guests and said, nice to see you but I’ve gotta go now. I shook hands with a couple of city councilmen and a candidate for governor and didn’t have time to meet Nixon’s son in law ( the state RNC chair ) nor did I see Patricia. Didn’t matter, it was too depressing to hang around. I mean, used to be you could count on Republicans to throw a good party. Has the economy sunk this low now?

Do any of my Democrat friends here notice a trend or is it just me?

The evening ended at a local Taco Bell with the Chalupa special.

  2. “MM, don’t let Rob sucker you into explaining this, that, etc. The boy is a ton smarter and memory recall is better than he portrays himself on the blog here.”

He must be smarter than me, that’s for sure! He’s figured out how to get paid every day for posting on Brownstoner. Unlike me, I usually have to wait until I get home from work.
