“And I’m on the last section of the manual!”
And like all big organizations, the minute the manual is complete and signed-off on, it will be deemed obsolete and you’ll begin working on the updated manual. Hey, at least it keeps you employed!
“You keep throwing the homeless out as an indictment of our society or as a byproduct of the wealthy.”
NO, I keep mentioning homeless because you seem to be trying to make the point that all of the poor in the U.S. (or most anyway) reside in homes that are far superior to ow-income housing almost anywhere else in the world. That’s an extreme oversimplification. There are varying degrees of poverty, from the working poor to the homeless and destitute. You seem to want to gloss over all of that. As you yourself pointed out, poverty is “too complex for such generalizations.”
Legion- it might be the law but they aren’t following it at the Bedford Armory. They get overnight shelter, then kicked out during the day. There are no programs there – one of the reasons the community is so up in arms about it.
There are homeless. Homelessness has been an issue we have struggled with forever in America and I’m not about to suggest there is a clear solution.

Sadly, much of the homeless problem is a result of societal excesses; namely drugs and alcohol.
In NYC by the way, it is the law that the homeless be sheltered and enrolled in educational, work and skills training programs.
Thanks Chicken, it’s good to know. I got some absolutely unreal deals on some champagnes about 2 years ago and since then I’ve seen the prices jump all over the place. Gem prices in general have been slumping (with the exception of tanzanite) but diamonds are a whole different ball game.

And then you’re going to finally finish the PLUSA manual right? I need that on my desk by tomorrow morning. ; )
