Even with my old rent stabilized apt. I have always paid the last month’s rent and waited for check from LL for security. Never used security as ‘last’. I guess I was concerned that I would get a ‘bad’ renter mark and it might come back to haunt me.
It’s hard to move as a family (not a student) without incurring expenses. Having said that, I’m more and ENY kinda guy. Planning is all.
“As a student, we always used to just not pay the last month’s rent and leave them the security deposit. Since we always left the places in decent condition we never had anyone chase us up.”
And of course that’s the way New Yorkers do it. That’s one way to reduce the nut.Every time I suggest it all the landlords jump all over me. But just look at all the folx screwed by LLs in this thread alone.
It isn’t “all there” anymore. The PLUSAs don’t notice the extended periods of silence. Actually, when I say anything it often doesn’t even get heard because the PLUSAs are off someplace else in their head. We are never together…we lives neighborhoods away, but post constantly. If I don’t post, they email me non-stop so I’m ready to kill them.
“Just packing up and moving because the LL/super has pissed you off is breaking the contract and considered “self-help.”
Just for the record, I wasn’t advocating packing up and moving suddenly for this reason. But if you are in say, a dangerous situation regarding a building’s maintenance (like that illegal building in Bed Stuy profiled here recently), I’d say it’s time to plan your escape if at all possible. Obviously these are case-to-case situations. But anyone who goes on the Internet to ask advice about moving should be prepared for a few “just move” responses. It’s rather silly to seek advice in a public forum and then complain about the quality of the advice you receive.
Arkady, you take the bread and coat one side with butter. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a bowl and coat the buttered side of the bread with it (not too thick) and then place it on a sheet of foil in the broiler part of the stove until the bread toasts (usually only takes 3-4 minutes at 400 degrees). Yummy!
Chicken, she isn’t “all there” anymore so she doesn’t notice the extended periods of silence. Actually, when I say anything to her, she often doesn’t even hear me because she is off someplace else in her head. We are never together…she lives 100’s of miles away, but calls me constantly. If I don’t take her calls, she calls my mother non-stop so my mom is ready to kill me.
LOL Pete!
