  1. “Who are these people???????”

    They’re friends and acquaintances of the NY Times writers. That’s the easiest way for reporters to find subjects for these sort of things.

  2. so how come Brownstoner didn’t feature a thread on yesterdays The Hunt column(which is usually annoying) from NYtimes about the european couple that ended up in pros-lefferts coop? maybe waiting till tomorrow?

  3. THL, I loved my Maclaren (at least once I learned how to fold it, lol!). But I was starting with a 25-lb. 23-month-old (adopted). I waited a month or so to replace the $7 toys-r-us stroller I took to China; by then I knew what I needed.

    Of course my father almost had a heart attack when I told him I spent $175 on a stroller! But the new $1g models are really too much.

    I don’t know how much schlepping you do in NJ; the Maclaren was great for the kind of subway stuff I did in Brooklyn. But with a newborn, she’ll outgrow it before she’s a year old and then you’ll get what you need.

    I really don’t understand this recall. They said something about an amputation risk for children–I know A LOT of people who used Maclarens and never heard of any such amputation.

    The other day my daughter (13.5) told me that she had a lot of trouble folding the stroller when she was babysitting this past summer. I told her that every mom I know has a crisis the first time they try to take the bus and the driver tells them they have to fold the stroller before they can come aboard. It certainly happened to me!

  4. “antiques become less appealing the more you become one.”

    Pete,

    Succinct, and to the point.

    By the way, is it just me, or do any of you have the same reaction when you read those “Habitats” profiles in the Sunday NYT real estate section. Invariably they show you the ubiquitous “creative professional” couple (straight or gay)who have the following characteristics:

    -rich;

    -they have enormous collections of MANY different items, which they just happened to pick up on their world-wide travel (as they were being “creative professionals”);

    -they did all the extensive renovations by themselves.

    Who are these people???????
