“I agree w/ dibs – there’re still plots of ground in the land of opportunity.”
I also agree. Cleverness, hard work, tenacity and innovative ideas will deliver you to the promised land. Of course, not everyone is going to go the “Super Bowl” of success, but it’s more likely to happen for the average person here in the U.S. than in any other country. For an example, look no farther than Mr. Brownstoner’ blog. He created something where nothing (of its type) previously existed.
kinda funny that everyone on here is “the american dream” is still alive and well.
Didn’t we do a survey a while ago and we found out the vast majority of you are all ivy league (or midwest equivalent) educated? Come on people. hahaha
Not picking on anyone inparticular but if you think Rob has had all the same opportunities as you all in his life, you’re pretty delusional.
No plot for me. Since it’s one of my most valuable assets, I’m leaving my corporeal being to charity – science. No hassle for the family, no cost, etc.
There are a lot of people who are probably a bit more indigent than Rob and bxgrl, no disrespect intended. The homeless guy who hung around my block and swept the sidewalks for change, for instance. He was found dead on the street this weekend. He was truly indigent, so much so that I’m sure he never even posted on Brownstoner.
hard work is necessary – but it has to be to the right end if what you want in life is to earn a lot (often at the expense of other things).
Plenty of hard work leads to a small pay check at the end of the week, month after month and year after year. One has to be careful when just saying “hard work”, the converse being the implication that you’re poor because you don’t work hard, which is often completely false.

I think I’ll land in a plot in the ground by the time I get another opportunity.
