Ah, good to know benson, I was so little then, I just remember holding my dad’s hand, going down to the lower level for the train, and not being really sure where we were going! [cobble, age 7]
So, a non-OT friend (hard to believe, I know) is in town and wants to take me out for a nice dinner for an early birthday celebration. Any suggestions for new (or old) good restaurants? Any nabe.
There used to a regular F, and an F express train. The express train stopped on the lower level. That F express train service was SO DAMN GOOD. It was discontinued sometime in the 70’s during the City’s fiscal crisis. There is talk of reviving it with all the development in Brownstone Brooklyn.
As I remember it, these were the stops of the F express:Jay Street, Bergen St, Smith and 9th, 7th Ave, Church Ave, 18th Ave and then Kings Highway.
I remember the days of subways with no A/C. Am I mistaken, or was that not all that long ago? I seem to recall late 80s-early 90s no A/C on some trains and windows open instead (as if that would help). (And please don’t tell me the late 80s were a long time ago, LOL!)
The other wonderful back-in-the-day subway thing was the little vending machines for nickel candy bars. You could dive off a train, snag a Hershey’s & get back on during one stop.

I’m guessing Pete is older since he’s talking about retiring – which I won’t be able to do until I’m about…uh…82!

“sitting on conf call so did the quickie here – got 1 of those chicken over rice thingies from the Halal street vendor”
Sometimes a quickie is all you need.
Thanks for reminding me with the rice M4L, I have some leftover cheesy rice and vegetables casserole in the fridge. That’ll be perfect.
