Dirt was the LEAST of the problems with the subway bathrooms back then. I remember going to the bathroom on 14th St-Union Square, and there was a guy watching the others in the urinal, jerking himself off. I ran out.
Oh cripes, Legion, I yelled at my then boyfriend for taking me to see that movie after I saw that scene. I still get the willies from it!

anyone see that scene in Trainspotting where Ewan Macgreggor dives into the toilet in the “dirtiest bathroom in Scotland”.
that scene says it all about the nyc subway toilets in the 70’s -early eighties.

Heard of the saying , but good luck with that one, I’ve seen train cars that looked like Romper Rooms. This is the reason I take the express bus home in the evening.
