M4L, I use 99cents stores sometimes, they do come in handy. In general I am scared of the products. I just feel like there’s teaming with toys that wouldn’t even come close to passing a safety standard and plastic that’s probably 50% lead and 50% god only knows.
Whenever I see a mom buying baby bottles, binkies or other baby products in them I get this really uneasy feeling.

DH, I think what’s happening is that the monied and the immigrants are trading places. Monied moving into the city and immigrants moving into the burbs. Or, another view: Rent control and rent stabilization were abolished, and now every two years you have to move another two subway stops out to afford the same rent. Right?

as econ stays in the dumps, there’ll be more & more 99c stores. Tons of them will be opened by Chinese folks who have connections to factories in china that produces the stuff.
I don’t dislike 99c stores but do get a little saddened it replaces a popular biz that’s no where close to being a 99c store – as was case here

Pete: I went with Skaller, despite the 43,000 Heyer signs all over the ‘hood. Although, now I’m doubting myself. I liked him saying he wouldn’t take money from developers and the like.
Turns out the CHA/Jerry Armer is backing him, too – but I didn’t know that until I came BACK from voting and saw their flyer – WTF? I mean if they really wanted to influence people, they might have wanted to deliver that flyer uhm, by say at least, YESTERDAY! LOL!
