infintite: They’re’ve been studies on this. It’s a personal space issue. People will sit a seat apart, but for awhile if there are only seats with a person sitting in every other, people will stand. It’s fascinating. They showed time-lapsed footage of several subways cars. They were also talking about other public places, plazas, etc. I’ll go look for the study/documentary online.
