We took the NYT thread down when we it was pointed out that the blog where the crititical comments originated was partial towards one of the candidates in the race…
Hey M4L. Sorry, been very busy today. Drove to Montreal on Saturday and then enjoyed a 9 hour drive back in stop and go traffic yesterday. I don’t know how much longer I could have put up with all of the yelling, rude behaviour and constant requests for bathroom breaks. And that was just Mrs. C!!! The Champettes were playing and laughing hysterically the whole time, but even that got annoying. Fortunately, a combination of an extended stop in Lake George (a nice place that is edging towards Niagara Falls-esque tackiness) and DVDs kept things pretty much under control
snaps- I still have to disagree re then and now. We had a lot we could actually point to and Bush did himself no favors (remember Mission Accomplished?). His policies put us in a huge amount of debt, was responsible for close to 5000 military deaths (not to mention the thousands of terribly wounded), did nothing to make us safe, decreased the separation between Church and State, sold out to big corporate interests- when he first got into office, despite How he got into office, the country adopted pretty much a wait and see approach. I certainly did. I was even a bit hopeful because he seemed to have a good record as governor of Texas.
But the second Obama got into office, the right has gone for the throat. It is very much over the top and the man has not been in office a year. They aren’t even waiting to see if he can pull us out of trouble. They want trouble so they can get him out of office. There is a big difference.
Re the NYTimes endorsement thread…several people called Jscheff out on it for painting an improper/incomplete picture as to what that candidate actually stood for and cited examples. I think a little fact checking may have proved him wrong in his statements, therefore it disappeared.
Perhaps not, Arkady, but, rightly or wrongly, he was labeled as stupid, a laughing stock, etc. Keith Olberman (who I love by the by) had a field day for 8 years painting him as the head clown. Many dems who didn’t really have a platform per se were fine with just saying basically that we should destroy everything GWB tries to get done if for no other reason than that he is GWB. That certainly meets my definition of undermining a president, our nation, etc. (I’m totally pointing a finger at myself in all of this too, because I was always eager to get in line and call him an ass, among other things.) I think that when one side has a pres they like, the noise from the other side is more audible than when they are on the opposing side. It’s kinda like that thing where they say most people can’t detect their own body odor but heaven forbid a rank person stand downwind of you!
