  1. Perfume doesn’t really do anything for me. I only notice it in a bad way (too much, too stinky, etc) and not in a good way. There are some smells I really love but none of them on other people. The smell of clothing that has dried outside on a clothesline is one of my absolute favorite smells in the world. The smell of wood chips and chainsaw. Freshly milled lumber. Hay drying in a field. Clean fresh water, like the smell of a stream as you drink from it. These are all pretty cliche and obviously just nasal nostalgia from my youth, but you can probably see the pattern and understand why perfume wouldn’t do it for me.

  2. Also there’s another perfume that reminds me of the smell at the funeral home when my grandmother died.

Occasionally I smell my grandmother’s actual perfume on some older woman…never asked any of them what it was…a nice “old lady” fragrance of some sort.

  3. When I studied it in college I used to be a major perfume snob like Won Ton (no offense).

Now, I think the problem comes not from it being commercial per se but people buying and keeping perfumes too far past their expiration date.

They really have a remarkably short shelf life and most don’t notice when it turns if they’re wearing it every day. For that reason I never buy it from a discounter, it’s usually old before you get it home. I also like to switch mine up. If it’s not under my nose constantly I can better detect when it goes off.

  4. quote:
There’s a women’s perfume I smell every now and then that i swear smells just like what they use when they spray for roaches.

hmmm i wonder if it’s made by H20.? i got a 4 sample set of after bath sprays from h20 and i sprayed it at work (not on myself, just into the air) and two people said it smelled like bug spray!!! it sorta did too

    *rob*

  5. It’s so hard to pick out a good scent. I cant stand going into the store and being assaulted by 90 different smells. Gives me an instant headache and about 5 minutes into it, I’m thoroughly nauseous. Stores need to find a better way to set that stuff up. It took them long enough to get to the point where they no longer have it right at the entrance/exit where you have no choice but to walk through it.
