lechacal, I have a few friends who have had great experiences with Flatrate. I recently used Gentle Giant, which is fantastic, but they may be more “white glove” than it sounds like you want. I would recommend you avoid Moishe’s and Schleppers!
“Now if you’re good, tomorrow we can go to the toy store!”
My mother used to “drag” me into the City from CT as a child, and she would bribe me to behave. If I was good ALL DAY, our last stop would be FAO Schwarz, where I was allowed to pick out one toy, and I would invariably go for a Steiff animal, the most expensive stuffed animal I could lay my hands on.
lechacal, I had a very good experience with the folks at Flatrate. Prior to that, I had a debacle with another company when moving just a couple blocks on the Upper East Side. It cost me thousands of dollars and I had a lot less crap than I have now (I was single at the time). STAY AWAY from Russian movers, with all due respect to Kens. They basically charged way in excess of the estimate and won’t release your stuff from the trucks (if you have to keep anything in storage) unless you pay them everything.
Re: Arkady’s 11:11, I wonder if, in large and highly populated cities like NY, we will ever come to accept that type of housing. Does anyone think the ‘bigger is always better’ movement is just a phase or a permanent fixture?
