I was going to wag my finger at all of you for still being here, but alas, I’m here too reading this! I’ll save my ‘Go to bed now!’ speech for myself 🙂
Mopar, haven’t seen Cobble at all today. She might be doing work for a friend again.
People argue about Jesus’ views on politics because the New Testament is not consistent. Even more confusing is his view on whether or not Christians must be celibate. Evidently he thought yes, but later scribes added some easier-to-live-with phrases, such as “it is better to marry than to burn.”
People argue about Jesus’ politics because the New Testament is not consistent. It was rewritten by numerous people over the years to reflect the changing times. Particularly confusing is Jesus’ view on whether or not Christians must be celibate. It appears he thought they should, and later scribes added some easier-to-live with phrases about how it’s better to marry than to burn.
bxgrl,
once again you are not arguing from the facts but from emotion.
You casually dismiss Justice Clarence Thomas and RNC Chairman Michael Steele with a “ha ha ha” as if I’m supposed to get the joke. Am I to infer that you would be one of those Democratic activists who threw Oreo cookies at Michael Steele when he was running for the Senate in Maryland? That incident did happen, and it is a casual and patronizing attituide on the part of left wing activists that allows such things to happen. I don’t take that example as representative of all Democrats, just as an example of the disrespect and hate shown to minorities who dare to show an independent spirit and go against the idea that because they are minorities, they are supposed to be Democrats, if they aren’t they must be “Uncle Toms”. Why wouldn’t you expect that just as many minorities have conservative views as liberal views, just like white Americans? If we have truly reached a state of post-racial equality, it shouldn’t be surprising to anyone, and not at all laughable that we have a Black American Supreme Court justice who is Republican as well as a Black American Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
You proclaim that the Republican party of old is dead and gone, when I just listed a group of prominent minority Republicans who are here and NOW! You like to mention Palin and Limbaugh, shall I say that the dems are the party of Nancy Pelosi and Keith Olberman? We are the big tent party, we are made up of whites, blacks, hispanics, asians and all other groups. To summarily state that we are the party of George Lincoln Rockwell is reaching back way too much and way too far. And you don’t even see it.
As far as a “right wing agenda”. The only agenda that I am advocating is one of truth and adherence to the constitution. And I just don’t see it here. For the reasons I have already stated in two previous posts.
To continue to argue that I am some kind of right wing plant ignores the simple facts as I have posted, without resorting to name calling and abuse of opposing views. I’ve given you examples of where I am standing left of center, I have yet to see any examples of where you even approach the center line.
Yes and 60% are for health care reform. I do love your argument about the history of the Republican Party- and considering how Colin Powell has been treated by them, its embarrassing he still considers himself a member of it. If I recall, he endorsed Obama. Condoleeze Rice was also not well treated- and that’s a shame such an intelligent woman lost so much credibility but again- she made her bed. Clarence Thomas, Michael Steele? Ha ha ha ha h ha ha…..
But to get back to the point, the Republican Party of 100 years ago is long dead and gone. Today a republican health care poster tore up a poster of Rosa Parks at a town Hall meeting. You can see the video for yourself. Without provocation he came from the other side off the room , walked over to the black woman who was unrolling it to show a journalist (at his request) and tore it out of her hands and ripped it up. Yes- I’m sure he would have been a Democrat 100 years ago but boy times have changed. Other than that, I don’t think you read exactly what I posted. The NAACP website says White Liberals, Blacks and others- it does not specifically mention republicans.
If you don’t understand what all that means its because you are too busy swallowing the party line. Its a sad thing to realize that the party of Lincoln is now the Party of George Lincoln Rockwell. And I know there are very many proud Republicans who are embarrassed And they are beginning to speak out.
As far as what Obama wants passed quickly its much more accurate to say he wants reform quickly and is pushing for that. Considering how many years its been that we need it, at least he may be the president to actually get it done.
That said, he has also said he wants a good bill passed- and a bipartisan committee is working on one that may be such a bill. But not doing anything? Its far more expensive than you think and we’ve all been paying through the nose for that inaction.
You keep insisting that we’re parroting a Democratic political agenda but I think its fair to say you have been very aggressive in promoting a right wing Republican agenda while denying you are. You should be careful of accusing people of the very thing you are doing.
I go to work for a few hours and all hell breaks loose.
Bxgrl says I should be in a padded cell.
Montrose Morris says I haven’t a clue.
Benson is not speaking to Montrose.
Can’t we all just get along?
But seriously now,
Bxgrl,
I guess you now see that the Republican party is not all bad since you have revised your previous position characterizing us as racists, violence prone and nazis.
You can now admit the historical truth about the Party of Lincoln and it’s role in human rights advocacy for the past 150 years. I see you looked up my reference to the NAACP being founded by Republicans, The first director of the NAACP was a Republican by the way as was WEB Dubois.
Here are some other famous republicans;
Colin Powell
Condaleeza Rice
Michael Steele
Clarence Thomas
These are important historical figures TODAY, not 100 years ago, not 50 years ago but today. What does that tell you about your idea that we are all racist, violent, nazis?
I have to believe that some of the information that I gave you may have changed your world view ever so slightly. Just ask yourself this; if you could be wrong about the true history of the Republican party, what else could you be wrong about?
MontroseMorris,
I was surprised about the personal tone of your “sermon”. You stated that I knew nothing about the current healthcare debate and about who needs insurance and who doesn’t.
I will continue to stand by my numbers. The grossly overinflated “uninsured” numbers are being used as a political ploy to enact larger goals of big government. The President makes no bones about his philosophy which is rooted in the 30’s era statism which informed his point view, vis a vis Saul Aulinsky. He truly believes in big government as a solution.
What I have to say about it is based upon my experience as a doctor born and raised in NYC. I have worked my entire career in underserved areas of the city (East New York where I spent much of my adolescence, Bed-Stuy, Bushwick, South Bronx). By the way, I was poor when I lived in ENY and I have been uninsured myself, but my family and I always found a way. I think my experience qualifies me as an expert in the healthcare debate and what is ailing the nation’s healthcare system. I have been working with it daily for many, many years. For you to say that I have no clue, is simply wrong.
The president has tried to pass this 1000 page farce at breakneck speed without regard to what truly has to be done to fix the system. He hasn’t addressed tort reform. He hasn’t addressed the need for inter-state competition between private plans. He hasn’t addressed the need for malpractice insurance industry reform. He hasn’t addressed how to increase the number of doctors and nurses in proportion to the 47 million “uninsured” he wants to suddenly place into a government plan. WHY?
He hasn’t addressed cost, the Congressional Budget Office, hardly a republican outpost, has stated his plan will increase healthcare costs over the long term.
and yet, president Obama wanted this plan passed yesterday.
MontroseMorris,
before you and Bxgrl try to explain me away as some sort of right wing loon, keep in mind several points, some of which I have stated in past posts;
I am not religious, although I respect religion highly.
I am for euthenasia and assisted suicide in some cases.
I am critical of republican mistakes of the past, such as the Bush medicare part D (pharmacy) expansion and the excessive spending.
I am for gay rights, but against re-defining “marriage”. Why seek conflict with the planet’s major religions? Hindus, Muslims, Jews and Christians.
hardly the views of Jerry Falwell, I would say.
meanwhile you choose to couch your arguments in an emotional tone that only strengthens my arguments which only seek to advance the truth and not a Democratic political agenda.
By the way, the latest Rasmussen poll shows that 53% of Americans are against the President’s healthcare plan at this time. that is America speaking. not me.
Shrillness??? Benson, you are the only person sounding shrill here. I don’t see you tolerating MY beliefs. You get very bent out of shape when anyone takes an opinion you don’t agree with. You called people, including me, morally and intellectually bankrupt, in the case of Brownstoner and preservation(ists),and now shrill and presumptuous. I don’t presume to do anything but state my opinion.
I do not presume to speak for Jesus,(a problem not shared by most Christian fundamentalists, btw) but I don’t think it is presumptuous to think that much of what is done in His Name has nothing to do with Christianity, and much to do with our human pride, fear and desire for power.
I’m sorry if that offends you so deeply, but I reserve the right to disagree with them, with you, or anyone else. The only bogeymen (where did that come from?) I see is in your moral outrage that there can be differing opinions by people of otherwise good will who are opining on an open forum on an internet blog.
benson you are way out of line and this is exactly what got you in trouble with THL. She is not speaking on Jesus’ behalf and your idea that she is comes from your confusion of legitimate opinion as opposed to offensive commentary. If you are so respectful of other’s ideas, you certainly aren’t showing it here. Fundamentalism is the bane of civilization- if 9-11 didn’t prove it, how about that doctor getting killed for helping women needing abortions? Or is that kind of violence ok in your book?
I was going to wag my finger at all of you for still being here, but alas, I’m here too reading this! I’ll save my ‘Go to bed now!’ speech for myself 🙂
