  1. The concept of people being brought together by ideas or words and not by physical or social similarities is really nothing new. But I find that in other idea-driven human clusters there inevitably is a noticable degree of physical and social and age similarity as well. Consider a Star Trek convention or Comic-Con. The wide disparity in age, appearance and social factors among last night’s group is quite stark in comparison. If you name a factor that would ordinarily draw people together I can name people who were there last night who are on quite different ends of the spectrum.
